In the first half of 2021, supported by the gradual recovery from domestic and foreign markets and rising coal prices, Chinese magnesium market moved steadily and insiders regained confidence. Nevertheless, Chinese magnesium market experienced a sudden change in Q3. After the peak season for equipment maintenance in July and August, the heavy pressure of Carbon Neutrality and Emission Peak in late September triggered that all magnesium ingot plants in Fugu stopped and the market supply decreased sharply, which caused unprecedented panic attitudes and dramatical price increase. The downstream die casting, 3C and sponge titanium industries faced cost pressure. In Q4, with the relaxation of policies, the supply of magnesium recovered steadily. Meanwhile, under the strong price adjustment of NDRC, the coal prices fell and ferrosilicon prices followed suit. Chinese magnesium ingot prices kept decreasing in October. After November, the magnesium market kept seeking balance with prices up and down.
