Ukraine reports 6.1% drop in pig iron output in Jan-Jul 2026

Ukraine's pig iron production declined by 6.1% year-on-year in the first seven months of 2026, according to data released by the Ukrainian Steel Association Ukrmetallurgprom.

In July alone, pig iron output totalled 432,200 tonnes, reflecting a sharp monthly decline of 35.6% and a year-on-year fall of 37.6%. The month also saw significant contractions across other steel products. Crude steel production dropped by 33.8% month-on-month and 21.3% year-on-year to 457,000 tonnes, while rolled steel output fell by 36.2% from June and 30.7% compared with July 2025, reaching 382,700 tonnes.

Despite the steep monthly declines, cumulative figures for the January–July period show a more moderate contraction. Pig iron production totalled 4.09 million tonnes, down 6.1% year-on-year, while crude steel output reached 4.02 million tonnes, a decline of 5.6%. Rolled steel production for the period came in at 3.32 million tonnes, falling by 8.3% compared with the same period last year.
