Ganfeng and Lithium Argentina seek third partner for Pozuelos-Pastos Grandes Lithium Project

Chinese miner Ganfeng Lithium and its Swiss partner Lithium Argentina are actively seeking a third investor to join the Pozuelos-Pastos Grandes lithium project in northern Argentina, Lithium Argentina's president Ignacio Celorrio told Reuters on Thursday.

Argentina, Chile, and Bolivia form the "Lithium Triangle," which holds the world's largest reserves of the white metal essential for electric vehicle batteries. Argentina currently ranks as the world's fourth-largest lithium exporter, with six operational projects across the country.

The Pozuelos-Pastos Grandes project, located in Salta province, is designed to produce 150,000 metric tons of lithium annually across three development stages, with total investment exceeding $3 billion, Celorrio said. He added that a third investor is expected to be selected in the coming months, though he declined to provide further details.

In March, Ganfeng applied to include the project under Argentina's Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI), which offers tax benefits and long-term stability for investments exceeding $200 million.

Ganfeng and Lithium Argentina, together with local firm JEMSE, also operate the Cauchari-Olaroz lithium project in the neighboring province of Jujuy. In May, that project received RIGI approval for a $1.2 billion expansion.
