China's crude steel output down 3.9% in first five months

In May 2026, China produced 72.97 million tonnes of pig iron, down 2.6% YoY, 84.36 million tonnes of crude steel, down 2.7% YoY, and 123.03 million tonnes of finished steel products, down 2.8% YoY, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

In the first five months of 2026, China produced 354.71 million tonnes of pig iron, down 3.1% YoY, 415.53 million tonnes of crude steel, down 3.9% YoY, and 592.99 million tonnes of finished steel products, down 1.5% YoY.
