Yichang Bangpu invests over RMB1 billion to expand LFP battery recycling

The Yichang Bureau of Ecology and Environment in Hubei Province recently released the draft environmental impact report for public consultation on the "Yichang Bangpu 300,000tpy Spent Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery Recycling Project."

According to the filing, the project represents a total investment of RMB 1.067 billion (USD157.30 million). It will involve the construction of a new M175 lithium salt workshop and an A168b water treatment facility on a reserved plot within the existing plant area, while also renovating five workshops--M192, M187, M181, M174, and M188--to accommodate the expansion. The project will leverage the existing M160 leaching workshop and cover a range of systems, including wet leaching, impurity removal, lithium salt synthesis, iron phosphate synthesis, and supporting water treatment, warehousing, and logistics. By integrating new production lines with upgrades to existing facilities, the project will be capable of recycling 300,000 tonnes of spent lithium iron phosphate battery packs (in equivalent terms) annually upon completion.
