First furnace fires up at Gansu Baomei's ferrosilicon alloy project

The first electric furnace of Phase I of the 300,000-tonne-per-year high-quality ferrosilicon alloy project by Gansu Baomei, a subsidiary of Baowu Magnesium Technology, was commissioned on May 11.

The project is being developed in two phases. Construction of the Phase I main plant area began in May 2025. To date, four electric furnaces, along with supporting auxiliary facilities including waste heat power generation, a 330kV substation and a water intake pumping station, have been largely completed.

The high-quality ferrosilicon produced in Phase I will be prioritized to meet the needs of Baowu Magnesium Technology's subsidiaries, Wutai Yunhai Magnesium Industry, Chaohu Yunhai Magnesium Industry and Anhui Baomei Light Alloy, for the production of magnesium ingots.
