World's first and widest copper and copper alloy heavy plate production line launched in Luoyang

On April 28, Chinalco Luoyang Copper Processing Co., Ltd. held a ceremony marking the full completion of its 3,500mm copper and copper alloy heavy plate production line. This is the world's first and widest specialized production line of its kind to date, filling a domestic gap in large-scale production of ultra-wide, high-end copper plates.

With a total investment of RMB159 million (USD23.26 million), the project is designed to produce 18,000 tonnes of high-performance copper and copper alloy heavy plates annually. Construction began in June 2024 and took approximately 22 months to complete. On March 15, 2026, the core rolling mill completed a trial run, achieving a plate reduction rate of 84% and micron-level rolling precision, meeting international advanced standards in both equipment performance and process technology.

The new line can stably produce high-precision, wide copper plates for critical applications in aerospace, shipbuilding, electronics, nuclear industry, rail transportation, and petrochemicals, significantly enhancing China's core competitiveness in the copper processing industry.
