Northwest China's largest iron ore mining project gets green light

The Beizhan Iron Ore Expansion Project in Hejing County, with a designed capacity of 10 million tonnes per year, has been approved by the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. The approval was granted just 30 working days after submission, setting a new record for the fastest approval of an iron ore project in Xinjiang.

As the largest iron ore mining project in Northwest China, it involves a total investment of RMB3.25 billion (USD452 million) and includes the construction of new mining and associated facilities. Scheduled for completion between 2025 and 2028, the project will boost raw ore production capacity from 1.5 million to 10 million tonnes per year, with an expected annual output of 4.98 million tonnes of iron concentrate. It is projected to generate RMB320 million (USD44.51 million) in annual tax revenue and create over 2,000 jobs.
