Central China's Hunan discovers massive manganese deposit

A massive manganese deposit with identified resources of about 84 million tonnes has been unearthed in the Qiyang-Lingling Basin of Yongzhou, a city in central China's Hunan province, with its overall potential reserve estimated to exceed 200 million tonnes, according to the Geophysical and Geochemical Survey Institute of Hunan Province.

As a major consumer of manganese, China consumes more than 10 million tonnes of the metal annually, with most of the manganese ore imported. The promising exploration results in Yongzhou indicated that China could further boost domestic supply of manganese ore and reduce import dependence.
