Qingdao Zhongzi Zhongcheng Group Co., Ltd. announced that its Indonesian unit PT. Bumi Morowali Utama (BMU) has been granted nickel mining output quota, known locally as RKAB, by Indonesia's Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
Under the RKAB, BMU is allowed to produce no more than 200,000 tonnes of nickel ore in 2024, with zero quota for 2025 and 2026 due to expired feasibility study report and environmental impact assessment. Mining companies can apply for more quota for 2025 and 2026 after they resubmit relevant documents during April to July 2025.
In Indonesia, mining companies are not allowed to produce and sell nickel ore until they get a quota under RKAB. Last year, BMU was given a quota of 1 million tonnes and sold 416,500 tonnes in total with sales revenue of RMB92.45 million (USD12.79 million). Given the newly approved quota, Qingdao Zhongcheng expects to see a large decline in sales of nickel ore in 2024.
