China's lithium battery industry maintained an upward momentum during the first two months of 2024, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

During the January-February period, China produced 277,000 tonnes of cathode material, up by 4.5% YoY, 230,000 tonnes of anode material, up by 5.6% YoY, 2.45 billion square meters of diaphragm, unchanged from the prior year period, and 135,000 tonnes of electrolyte, up by 3.8% YoY. The country's production of battery grade lithium carbonate and lithium hydroxide reached 75,000 tonnes and 41,000 tonnes respectively in the period, with two-month average prices for battery grade lithium carbonate and battery grade lithium hydroxide (micro powder) at RMB97,000/t (USD13,399) and RMB92,000/t (USD12,708/t) respectively.
