Global crude stainless steel production down by 3.8% YOY in Q1 2022

According to the data released by the World Stainless Association on June 20, in the first quarter of 2022, global crude stainless steel production reached 14.45 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of about 3.8% but a month-on-month increase of about 1.7%.

In terms of major regions, Europe produced 1.86 million tons, decreasing by about 2.5% year-on-year but increasing by about 5.2% month-on-month; the United States produced 569,000 tons, down by about 8.8% compared with the same period last year but up by about 5.7% from the previous month; mainland China's output reported 8.01 million tons, a decrease of about 8.0% year-on-year but an increase of about 4.1% month-on-month. Asia (mainly including India, Japan and Taiwan, China) excluding mainland China, South Korea and Indonesia produced 1.96 million tons, increasing by about 4.1% against the same period last year but decreasing by about 3.3% from last month, while other regions (including Indonesia, South Korea, South Africa, Brazil and Russia) recorded 2.05 million tons, up by about 8.0% year-on-year but down by about 5.8% month-on-month.
