The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported on April 11 that for the month of February 2022, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,232,679 net tons, up by 7.4% from the 6,753,067 net tons shipped in February 2021. Shipments were down by 6.8% from the 7,757,672 net tons shipped in January 2022.

The year-to-date shipments in 2022 are 14,990,351 net tons, a 5.9% increase versus shipments of 14,155,883 for the two months of 2021.

In the first two months of 2022, shipments of corrosion-resistant sheet and strip and hot rolled sheet both increased by 3% YOY, while cold rolled sheet shipments were down 4% YOY.
