- On the afternoon of Jun 4th, 2026, Ms. Ellen Jorgensen, the SVP Strategic Sourcing and Mr. Yi Wang, the Sourcing Manager China of Hydro visited Asian Metal and were warmly greeted by Ms. Daphne Zhang, the Consultant & Senior Product Manager for Magnesium Industry and Mr. Friday Gao, the Chief Consultant for Aluminum Industry.
- First of all, Ms. Daphne Zhang took the lead in providing a systematic analysis of the global magnesium metal supply and demand pattern for 2025, and offered a forward-looking on the strategic restructuring and application prospects of the global magnesium industry in 2026. On this basis, focusing on the core goal of low-carbon transformation, the two parties conducted an in-depth discussion on traditional production processes such as the pidgeon process, with a special emphasis on investigating and comparing the performance of vertical retort smelting technology promoted within the industry in terms of cost control and emission reduction effectiveness. Concurrently, the two parties also had a comprehensive discussion on the new capacity layout and future development trends of the Chinese magnesium metal market, further clarifying the key pathways and strategic directions for the global magnesium industry in the process of green and efficient development. Hydro is a global consumer for magnesium ingot and silicon metal. Hydro, based in Norway, is a globally recognized integrated aluminum group and a leading consumer of magnesium ingot.
- Afterwards, Mr. Friday Gao introduced new overseas aluminum electrolysis projects in Southeast Asia, Africa, and other regions, and analyzed how the additional capacity will drive demand for auxiliary materials such as prebaked anodes and aluminum fluoride. Ms. Ellen Jorgensen introduced Hydro's global electrolytic aluminum distribution landscape and the overall demand for aluminum fluoride and anodes.
