In 2023, Shaanxi produced 470,000 tonnes of magnesium metal with output value exceeding RMB15 billion (USD2.07 billion) in 2023, accounting for nearly 60% of production in China and 50% of worldwide production, remaining the largest magnesium production hub in China and the world for eleven consecutive years.

According to an action plan announced by Shaanxi Provincial Development and Reform Commission, Shaanxi aims to develop a lightweight aluminum and magnesium materials industry innovation cluster with industrial scale exceeding RMB50 billion (USD6.91 billion) by 2025 and RMB100 billion (USD13.82 billion) by 2030.
