America's steel products imports increase by 62.2% MOM in Jan

According to a report compiled by the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) based on preliminary data released by the US Census Bureau, America's steel products imports in January 2021 were 2.42 million short tons (2.20 million tons), a year-on-year decrease of 23.1% but a month-on-month increase of 62.2%. Among them, the import volume of finished steel was 1.24 million short tons, a year-on-year decrease of 24.8% and a month-on-month decrease of 7.5%.

In January, the United States still imported the most finished steel from South Korea, which was 131,000 short tons, down by 41% month-on-month; the US imported 82,000 short tons of finished steel from Turkey, an increase of 489% month-on-month; the US imported 46,000 short tons from Japan, down by 17% from the previous month; the US imported 42,000 short tons from Brazil, an increase of 8% from the previous month.

In 2020, America's steel products imports totaled 22.02 million short tons, a year-on-year decrease of 21.2%. Among them, the import volume of finished steel was 16.139 million short tons, a year-on-year decrease of 23.3%.
