Brazil's crude steel production increases by 10.8% YOY in Jan

According to the data from IABr, Brazil's crude steel production increased by 10.8% year-on-year to 3 million tons in January 2021.

In January, domestic sales in Brazil recorded 1.9 million tons, an increase of 24.9% year-on-year; apparent consumption volume was 2.2 million tons, up by 25% year-on-year. The export volume totaled 531,000 tons, down by 52% compared to the corresponding period last year; the import volume was 324,000 tons, a year-on-year increase of 42.3%.

Data show that Brazil's crude steel output totaled 30.97 million tons in 2020, a year-on-year decrease of 4.9%. In 2020, domestic sales in Brazil reached 19.24 million tons, an increase of 2.4% year-on-year. Apparent consumption volume was 21.22 million tons, up by 1.2% year-on-year. Affected by the COVID-19 epidemic, steel consumption volume did not experience the expected sharp drop. The export volume recorded 10.74 million tons, down by 16.1% year-on-year; the import volume was 2 million tons, a decrease of 14.3% year-on-year.

IABr predicts that Brazil's crude steel output is expected to increase by 6.7% to 33.04 million tons in 2021. Apparent consumption volume will increase by 5.8% to 22.44 million tons. Domestic sales in Brazil may increase by 5.3% to 20.27 million tons. The export volume is expected to reach 11.71 million tons, an increase of 9%; the import volume may increase by 9.8% to 2.22 million tons.
