According to statistics from World Steel Association, the production of pig iron from blast furnace in 38 countries and regions totaled nearly 1.3 billion tons in 2020, down by 0.58% YOY. In 2019, the 38 countries and region produced 99% of the world's total pig iron from blast furnace.

In 2020, the output in Asia was up by 1.26% YOY to about 1.08 billion tons. Of which, the output in China increased by 4.26% YOY to 888 million tons, while that in India, Japan and South Korea fell by 8.65%, 17.8% and 4.0% YOY to about 67.74 million tons, 61.60 million tons and 45.63 million tons respectively.
