Congestion on border with Mozambique blocks chrome ore export of South Africa

It was said that Fesarta criticized South African government for delaying Lebombo border post between South Africa and Mozambique, causing traffic congestion of a large number of trucks; the truck queue stretched for over 25km. The delay was attribute to traffic control and the detection of COVID-19 in South Africa side.

An official of Fesarta noted that the congestion in Lebombo blocked the export of chrome ore in Maputo Port, Mozambique. Chrome ore accounts for about 80% of goods from transport companies now.

SAAFF released an announcement to call for the government to make closer cooperation with it when implementing COVID-19 agreements to alleviate the destructive effects on travelers, enterprises and economy. It also reiterated the demand to build public-private partnership among the government, authorities and institutions and private sectors.
