IAI: North American aluminum output rises by 2.3% YOY in Sep

According to data released by International Aluminum Institute (IAI) on Tuesday, North American smelters produced 317,000 tons of primary aluminum in September, up by 2.3% YOY. It was the ninth month of the output recording year-on-year growth. However, the output in September hit the second lowest volume this year, closing to the lowest figure of 314,000 tons in February. The primary aluminum output in North America rose to 2.98 million tons from January to September, up from 2.86 million tons of the same period of last year.

The latest report from Aluminum Association indicated that the production from January to September in the U.S. was estimated at 899,900 tons. According to IAI, the average daily aluminum output in the U.S. fell to 2,459 tons in September, while that in last September was 3,011 tons.

According to another report from Aluminum Association of Canada, Canada's aluminum production for 2020 ending in September is expected at 3.13 million tons, higher from the figure of 2.84 million tons last year.
