China promotes more than 4.8 mln NEVs during 13th Five-Year Plan

According to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, China sees rapid growth in the production and sales of new energy vehicle (NEV) during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), ranking first globally for five consecutive years since 2015. During the period, China promoted more than 4.8 million NEVs which accounted for over 50% of the world's total. More and more NEVs are on the road in China.

In addition, during the 13th Five-Year Plan period, Chinese NEV makers have achieved promising results in terms of innovation in core technologies such as battery, motor and electronic control system. China now holds a leading position in power battery technology. For example, the energy density of unit cell reaches 270WH/Kg, up by 220% compared to 2012, and the price stands at RMB1.0/WH (USD0.15/WH), an 80% drop from 2012. Meanwhile the supply of NEV continues to improve along with mass production of vehicle with mileage exceeding 500km. As of August 2020, China has built 41,000 charging stations, 462 battery-swap stations and 1.38 million charging piles across the country, making itself much more NEV-friendly.
