Japan's steel consumption decreases by 22.1% YOY in Jan-Jul

According to data released by the Japan Iron and Steel Foundation (JISF), in July this year, Japan's consumption of steel products totaled 3.48 million tons, an increase of 12.8% from June, but a decrease of 20% from the same period last year.

In the first seven months of this year, Japan's consumption of steel products decreased by 22.1% year on year to 24.49 million tons.

In the first seven months of this year, the consumption of steel products in the construction sector in Japan fell by 10.7% year on year to 5.55 million tons. The consumption of steel products in the automotive industry totaled 5.14 million tons, a decrease of 32.4% from the same period last year. During this period, the Japanese shipbuilding industry consumed 1.93 million tons of steel products, a year-on-year decrease of 16.6%.
